Sun Yat Sen Museum, Penang, offers a unique glimpse into heritage Peranakan architecture and décor that is at once breathtaking and visually arresting. The unusually long tropical shophouse features an intimate courtyard garden, a handsome timber staircase, carved wooden screens and ornate furniture, and a Nyonya kitchen.
The museum hosts a permanent exhibition on the Chinese revolutionary – Dr Sun Yat Sen, who gave his famous speech here in 1910. Visitors can partake of complimentary tea and guided tours in Mandarin and English. Situated right next to a lush, green pocket park, the museum is a popular tourist attraction on the most-visited street in George Town – Armenian Street.
